Now on literature we started to read Nikolai Gogol's "Dead Souls".
Well I think that it will be good if I'll tell something about the author. Nikolai Gogol was born in 1809 and he dead in 1852, so he's life wasn't really long. I won't tell all of his biography, but I have to say that he was the most mysterious Russian writer! There're a lot of legends about him & strange facts of his life. So I always thought that his works have a riddle. And it's true: his famous compilation evening near Dikanka is very strange and mysterious! I love the story "The Night Before Christmas".
But return to the "Dead Souls". This story has really strange name, so i thought that it's about ghosts or something like that. But it seemed that this work is about dead souls of farmers which were bought by the main character. With the help of this tale Gogol wanted to show Russian 19th century life, and most of all he wanted to show the salvation of the soul...
But the story isn't over, because Gogol burnt 2nd part. And it's really strange that he burnt it for 2 times!
Interesting, isn't it? I started to read the story and now I can say that it's really difficult and strong creation. And I hope, no, I know, that I will read this book to the end!
I think everyone should try to read this story...
